toponymy toponymy

Toponymy

On August 13th of this year we presented to the Museum a new topic / category: place names: the study of place names.
The evening developed with the following lineup:
regional toponymy
local toponymy
regional routes and local
historical report on the State Arena Eng. Antonio Tripodi
photographic series on the transport of men and women.

For regional place names, reference was made to the text: "Calabria and Salento Essays in linguistics "by Gerhard Rohlfs.
The topography is a light on that part of history so old as to have no other document than that given its name from the site. Place names can often tell who originally owned the place, to which family, to which parent, who was its owner, the type of place, the presence of trees or other plants, the morphology of the land and so on .
The topography is therefore an identity card of the place.
Fundamental is the final part of the names.
- and adi - oni endings are Greek (blue background) from which we obtain the names of families or the householder who founded the town.
